Scenic Highway: BluffsThe only known example along the Gulf Coast of red clay bluffs are along the eastern shore of Escambia Bay. They represent the highest point along the entire coastline of Florida. This feature caused the earliest Spanish explorers to establish the first settlement in the sheltered bay near the bluffs in 1559. Scenic vistas are a highlight as the road winds for 11 miles through parks and nature preserves.

The corridor is tied with the history of the Pensacola areas from its earliest beginnings. Nearby at Emanuel Point, lies the 16th Century shipwreck that marks the first attempt to settle the area by the Spanish in 1559.
