Perdido Key: Flora Bama Lounge

For a bit of local honky-tonk flavor, the Flora Bama Lounge at the Alabama border, is home to an annual international songwriters festival and interstate mullet toss. The road house was established in 1964 by the Tampary family. In 1978 Joe Gilchrist bought the establishment and in 1984 Pat McClellan joined him as partner. The lounge is a popular tourist destination.

The bar is located on the state line between Florida and Alabama.

The bar appears small from roadside but is actually a complex of connected locations, including tents and exterior shelters.
