Pensacola Beach: County Boardwalk: Fort Pickens Entrance

There is a large complex of shelters for public use on the gulf side of Fort Pickens Road at the Gulf Islands National Seashore Fort Pickens Entrance. The dune fences along the beach trap windblown sand, store excess beach sand, and serve as natural erosion buffers, protecting beach-front property and coastal infrastructure during storms and high-wave events.
