Gulf Islands National Seashore: East BayGulf Islands National Seashore, a park rich in natural and cultural resources was established in 1971. The purposes of the park are to provide recreation for visitors and to protect the wildlife, barrier islands, salt marshes, historic structures, and archaeological sites along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.
The sound side of the barrier islands is sheltered from the battering of storms. Large stand of oaks and other trees flourish in the Naval Oak Preserve. taken by Michael ODonovan
