Cantonment: Milestone

Development of a 200 acre parcel began in 1996. The area had been a helicopter field. Milestone's theme was established by sociologist, Dr. Ray Oldenberg. The developers envisioned a mythical community much like Andy Griffin's television village of Mayberry. The community is self-sufficient with a grocery store, banking and postal service. Small business provide other services, such as medical facilities. There is a town square with a gazebo for festivals and picnics. Parks provide traditional spaces for ball fields and play equipment. A jogging track defines the central core of the neighborhood, dividing the interior section with homes on 1/2 acre lots from the large, 2 acre lots on the periphery. White split level fences define the subdivision as a separate space from the adjacent neighborhoods of the Pine Forest and Cantonment communities.
