Bagdad: Ventura BoulevardIn the 19th century, Bagdad was very much a company town. The roads and bridges, the commissary, and most of the houses were built by the mill. The trees that the early settlers thought would last two hundred years were gone in one hundred and the sawmill was closed in 1939. However, harvesting trees for pulpwood is one of the major crops in the area. The oldest canopy trees are located in the village. (source: Green, Laurie, Images of America: Santa Rosa County)
